Chris and Jamie built their house in the Matsu Valley while homeschooling their two hardworking boys! Photography by Kayla Smith
Jamie Bottoms has been an active member in the Mat-Su Valley community since 2001 creating murals for local businesses and non-profits, and painting live at conferences and events. She has extensive teaching experience with ages 4 – adult, including being a preschool teacher in Anchorage, a youth pastor in Bethel, Alaska, leading art workshops for a variety of camps here in the valley, and co-instructing a workshop for art teachers at the AAEA conference. Jamie has had the privilege of instructing some of the finest K-12th grade students in the Mat-Su Valley during her five years as an art teacher.
Jamie knew at a very early age that she was an artist. Her childhood walls showed proof of it in many forms over the years. In her own words, “There is art in everyday life. You can find beautiful truth hiding in everything and everyone around you. The secret is, that sometimes, you just have to tilt your head, and squint a little, to get a better look.”
Though she has been an artist for most of her life, Jamie decided to follow her dream of being a “professional” artist in 2007. Her work has been seen in venues in Alaska, and Chicago. Jamie’s paintings are in private national and international collections including Puerto Rico, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. Her desire is to encourage creativity, and someday open a gallery that inspires faith and hope.
